Quintana de Belmonte
Quintana de Belmonte is a parish located near Boinás in the council of Belmonte de Miranda, situated in the inland region of Asturias, Spain. This small village is surrounded by the beautiful natural landscapes of the Sierra Manteca, characterised by the presence of mountains and valleys.
As you approach Quintana, you will encounter the church of Saint Julian and the parish cemetery, near an old mill that once used the waters of the Caúxa River. The church, dating back to the 12th century, is an example of Asturian Romanesque architecture. The façade is notable for its elegance and simplicity, and inside, visitors can find interesting features such as an 18th-century altarpiece and a polychrome carving of Saint Julian.
Within Quintana itself, a tower built in the late Middle Ages, during the 15th century, stands out among the houses and buildings. This tower belonged to the local nobility and has undergone renovations over the years. It features three floors constructed with masonry and ashlar, with arrow slits in the walls serving as defensive elements.
The economy of Quintana is mainly based on agriculture and livestock, with a focus on milk and meat production. The village has essential services like a shop, a bar, and a social centre. However, due to its status as a parish, Quintana hosts the Fiestas del Sacramento Quintana - Boinás (Sacrament festivities) during the first weekend of August. This celebration brings together residents from Quintana and Boinás for concerts and religious events.
