Boinás
Boinás, formerly known as Bueinás, is a village within the parish of Quintana, one of the fifteen parishes that make up the council of Belmonte de Miranda. Located in the valley of the La Uxa River within the Camín Real de la Mesa region, this village is part of a significant mining area.
The gold mine of El Valle is recognised as a cultural heritage site in the region. Remarkably, it remains active and is the sole location in Spain where gold extraction is still carried out.
This mining area is situated in the so-called gold belt of the Narcea River. While its origins seem to date back to the time of the Roman Empire during the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, evidence suggests that the activity dates back to 800 BC when Asturian tribes engaged in gold mining along the riverbanks.
In essence, the lands of Boinás are a traditional and historically significant mining area. The continuing relevance and economic importance of mining in this region are evident, explaining the historical use of several roads and communication routes through Belmonte, including the Roman road of La Mesa, Camín Francés, and Camín Real.
