San Andrés
San Andrés is a village belonging to the parish of Trubia.
The village that holds the key to the Trubia valley and is the last before entering Santo Adriano.
The Trubia River flows to the west of the settlement, in a north-south direction. On the west bank of the river there is a public wash house, which was used in ancient times by the village’s inhabitants.
In the village typical constructions of the Asturian rural past such as hórreos, paneras (granaries on stilts) and traditional houses can be seen. That said, the most notable building in the village is undoubtedly the church of San Andrés de Trubia.
One of Oviedo’s most well-known sites of outstanding natural beauty is located in this municipality: the Guanga or Buanga waterfalls.
From San Andrés there is a 3.4 km hiking route that allows walkers to visit the six waterfalls, which are distributed around the Buanga stream.
The area is dominated by woodland vegetation, including maples (Acer spp.), sweet chestnut trees (Castanea sativa), birch (Beluta spp.) and common hazelnut trees (Corylus avellana). Up until a few years ago, the village used to celebrate the festivities of Our Lady of the Rosary in October, but these celebrations no longer take place.
