Chapel of San Roque
The chapel of San Roque is situated in the municipality of San Esteban de Gormaz, Soria, on the outskirts of the town centre.
The chapel's construction date and its origins are currently unknown. However, it has recently undergone a restoration process.
This single-nave church, with a rectangular floor plan and a gabled roof, was erected in honour of one of the three saints who protect pilgrims.
The building is constructed from masonry, although it has undergone some subsequent alterations and modifications. The central structure appears to have been constructed using two other bodies that were subsequently incorporated into the design. Firstly, there is a nave, the size of which is consistent with the body of the chapel, which would correspond to the chancel of the church. There is a smaller, secondary nave located on one side of the chapel. Both have a three-slope roof.
The cover exudes a sense of sobriety and simplicity. The structure comprises a lintelled arch, with a small gold-plated cross in the centre. The chapel is topped by a modest belfry housing a single bell, which is surmounted by a weather vane.
The temple is situated near a stone transept, which is accessed via a large and imposing stone staircase.
This cylindrical structure features a stone carving of the image of the crucified Christ, although it is currently in a state of poor conservation.
