Chapel of the Virgen de las Angustias
The chapel of the Virgen de las Angustias is situated to the north of the municipality of Recuerda, in the direction of the village cemetery.
The area surrounding the chapel is not particularly rugged, with a vast plain extending over numerous cultivated fields.
The church is constructed from ashlar and masonry and has a doorway with a porch and a three-sided roof. The doorway is defined by a round arch with large double arches. The porch is supported by four columns, two of which are constructed from stone and the other two, in the central part, from wood. The second section of the chapel is rectangular in shape and its façade features two pinnacles located one on each side of the belfry, which stands out from the rest of the building. On the pinnacles, there is a bell decorated with bunches of grapes and vine leaves, as well as a cross with lobe-shaped arms and the figure of Christ standing on a small pedestal. This part has a gable roof. Finally, there is a third body with a square floor plan and a hipped roof. In this final phase of construction, openings have been strategically placed to allow natural light into the interior.
The church is situated near the SO-160 road, just 200 metres from the village church, the Parroquia de San Bernabé.
A pilgrimage is held at the chapel on 22 April in honour of the Virgen de las Angustias. During this celebration, the Virgin is transported to the chapel, where the traditional auction of banzos takes place.
