Roman Bridge
The town of Andaluz is situated to the southeast of a bridge that was constructed in medieval times to span the Duero River.
The medieval bridge of Andaluz, constructed in the 9th century using ashlar masonry, became a key border point between the Christian and Muslim kingdoms.
The construction is of remarkable aesthetic quality, measuring 115 metres in length and spanning 70 metres between abutments. The structure comprises six openings in the form of a round arch, with a width that decreases from the centre (7.8 m) to the ends (5.5 m). The bridge comprises five cutwaters, with boat-shaped upstream and semicircular downstream sections. These are topped with little hats on both sides.
It is worth noting that this construction was a mandatory passage in the Middle Ages and served as a toll for the herds of Merino sheep that transhumance through the Cañada Real Galiana.
The bridge, which was renovated in the 18th century, underwent a restoration in 2015, with the focus being on the cutwaters. Other corrections were also made to the bridge's structure.
