SL FV 29: Betancuria - Degollada Vieja - Antigua
Description
Across the Crests
The local path FV 29, begins at the section of GR-131 that runs between Betancuria and Pájara, near Degollada de Tegetuno. From this point, the trail ascends gently through the west side of the mountain, until it reaches Degollada Vieja, where it goes down along the east side to the village of Antigua.
In the fifth section of the main trail, near “casa del queso” (“house of cheese”) in the village of Betancuria, we find the starting point for local trail SL FV 29. From here, we begin a gentle ascent along the west side of the mountain until we reach Degollada Vieja (583 m) where there is a resting area and from where we can see, to the north, the slopes of Morrete de Tegetuno (597 m ). In the course of the ascent to Degollada Vieja, this trail coincides with trail GR. Once at the top, GR goes south, across the crests of the mountains, while SL FV 29 goes down the east side of the mountain toward the village of Antigua, for a distance of approximately 3.5 km.
Past the midpoint of the trail, we reach the region of El Hornillo, and a dirt track that takes us into Antigua.
This Canary municipality, located in the center-east of Fuerteventura, was once one of the most populated areas of the island. In addition, in this municipality we find one of the most important tourist resorts of the island: Caleta de Fuste.
