Carricedo
Carricéu, formerly known as Carricedo, is a hamlet under the jurisdiction of the parish of Las Estacas, one of the fifteen parishes that make up the council of Belmonte de Miranda. Located in the Camín Real de la Mesa region, Carricéu has historical significance as an old braña vaqueira (cowherd's hut). While the origins of the hamlet are unclear, its history is closely linked to the municipilaty of Belmonte.
The 14th and 15th centuries represent a notable period in Carricéu's history. During this time, various villages in the area were under the influence of the nobility. This social organisation gave rise to a new social class known as vaqueiros de alzada. This cultural group was engaged in seasonal transhumance and emerged as a servile workforce who looked after the herds owned by the nobility.
The agricultural prosperity in the region during this period led to the establishment of different villages including Carricéu. These settlements were strategically located in flat areas near the course of the Pigüeda River, their economy was based on agricultural production, and they lacked defensive structures.
