Geology
Los Escurriales (Also Known as Paisaje Lunar)
Surrounding El Teide National Park, there is a vast forest area that makes up the Corona Forestal Natural Park. This area conserves the most important examples of pine forest and high mountain vegetation on the island of Tenerife. It also concentrates many of the ravines that make up the drainage network of the north and south of the island and has a unique geological structure known as Los Escurriales.
Located to the north of the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, you will find this volcanic formation of pumice stone, affectionately known by the locals as Paisaje Lunar de los altos de Vilaflor (Lunar Landscape of the Vilaflor Heights).
These are whitish volcanic chimneys and rocks shaped by the combined action of wind and torrential water hitting the volcanic rock deposits on their way down the ravine. This is the reason for its peculiar name: Los Escurriales.
