De Capricho Rock Formatio
One of the greatest treasures of El Teide National Park is the huge cirque called Las Cañadas. This gigantic caldera has a diameter of 17 kilometres and El Teide Peak sits on top of it. Its spectacular volcanic formations will delight geology lovers.
One of the best known in Cañada del Capricho, located at 2200 metres and with a unique climate, is the area where sport climbing began to develop in the Canary Islands. The name of this ravine comes from El Capricho rock formation, also known in the area as Las Piedras Amarillas (The Yellow Stones).
This yellow and reddish rock formation has been moulded capriciously by the wind and rain over the years prior to the great landslide that took place during the last moulding phase of the Las Cañadas caldera.
Located under the Guajara Mountain, which at 2717 metres is the fourth highest peak in the Canary Islands, hikers can enjoy this spectacular set of corridors, labyrinths and cavities that film lovers will recognise from some of the shots in the adventure film Clash of the Titans.
