El Palomar Rock Formation
El Palomar rock formation is located in the area of Las Cañadas del Teide, specifically in Las Pilas ravine, located within the Natural Park. This type of geological element is very common in this area.
Before reaching El Palomar, hikers must pass through a clearer and smoother area, on the upper part of the wall, located before a steep slope. The rock formation is easily recognisable thanks to its characteristic taffonis, holes measuring almost half a metre in which some birds nest and the main reason why El Palomar owes its name to this rock formation. These hollows, originally small and which have become larger over time, are formed by erosion caused by the reaction of the rock to water and wind.
