Es Bèrecs
The origin of the term by which this place is known, Bèrecs de Santa Ana, comes from the deformation of the English word "barracks", and stems from the fact that the remains of some old English barracks are located here.
In the 18th century, during the British presence on the island, these former barracks were built to serve as a military detachment for coastal surveillance. The infrastructure consisted of three pavilions that could accommodate up to 90 people.
Today's ruins are the result of the destruction of these buildings by an English frigate, the Imperieuse, in 1808, as they also housed a Spanish garrison.
