River Homino
The Homino is a river belonging to the Ebro River Basin, with a length of 39.1 km and a basin surface area of 1,084.46 km², which runs entirely through the province of Burgos. The Homino is a riverbed of vital importance for many municipalities in the area and has an important value from the environmental point of view, not in vain, its surroundings are part of the Banks of the River Oca and Tributaries Site of Community Interest.
It rises at an altitude of 934 m, near the municipality of Hontomín, and its course ends in the municipality of Oña, where its joins the waters of Oca at an altitude of 580 m, in the vicinity of the Montes Obarenes-San Zadornil Natural Park.
The River Homino rises from a series of springs located to the north of the municipality of Hontomín, where it begins its descent through a series of depressions. Further on, it receives water from several streams and some tributaries that also flow through this natural environment.
Although it does not have a large flow, it does have some bathing areas along its course, such as the Lermilla mill pool, Lences natural pool and the Poza de Sal pools, which give it an impressive scenic and environmental value. Its riverside forest is also another natural attraction in the area.
