Bustillo de Medina
Bustillo de Medina, also known as Bustillo de Villarcayo, is a neighbourhood in the municipality of Medina de Pomar, just over 2 kilometres away.
At the beginning of the 14th century, the Muslims settled in these lands, developing an important pottery industry. For those who enjoy this type of craftsmanship, we recommend a visit to a private house where a vaulted oven with its blower is preserved, as well as a visit to the Historical Museum of Las Merindades, in the neighbouring town of Medina de Pomar, where numerous vestiges of production in the area are preserved.
This hamlet, located between Moneo and Villacomparada, distributes its homes around the parish church, dedicated to Saint Peter, situated in the centre of a small field. The town also had a chapel in the enclave of La Granja de San Julián, dedicated to the saint. However, no remains of this building have survived to the present day.
In this area, the river Trueba, over which there is an old metal bridge belonging to the Santander-Mediterranean Sea railway, flows into the Nela and joins the river Salón, creating an interesting wetland.
The festivities in honour of Saint John the Baptist take place on 29th August.
