San Martín de Valdeporres
Halfway between the towns of Pedrosa and Rozas, there is find a small village known by the name of San Martín de Valdeporres.
This small village belongs to the municipality of La Merindad de Valdeporres. Among the main attractions of this village is the river Engaña, which has a bathing area, its hermitage and some restored noble houses whose construction dates back to 1546.
Surrounding San Martín there are several natural meadows, as well as good stone quarries, and a small mountain called La Dehesa, where you can find species such as oaks, hazelnut trees, hawthorns and other shrubs.
Traditionally the economy of this town has been centred on agriculture, the main crops being wheat, rye, maize, pulses, potatoes and vegetables. There are also some herds of sheep, cattle and goats.
Every 8th September the residents of San Martín de Valdeporres celebrate their festivities in honour of the Virgen de las Riberas with a morning mass and the popular bowling competition and dance in the afternoon.
