Chapel Our Lady of the Valley
On the top of a hill to the southeast of Vallespinoso de Cervera stands the Romanesque chapel of Nuestra Señora del Valle (Our Lady of the Valley).
This small 13th century church consists of a single nave with a square chancel decorated at the entrance with a semicircular arch. The inside is simple and has a single section. It is separated from the chancel by a transverse arch and is covered with wood, including its pointed barrel vault that is very characteristic of the Romanesque style.
Inside the old chapel, there are valuable 15th century mural paintings that are associated with the master of St. Felices de Castillería. These works were discovered in 1994 and underwent restoration until 1996 in order to protect this local cultural heritage. The works represent religious scenes of the Annunciation, the Nativity, the Visitation, the Flight to Egypt, and the Betrothal of the Virgin.
It should be noted that the town's festivities are held in honour of Nuestra Señora del Valle every second Sunday of September and it is a tradition to sing the Hail Holy Queen at the chapel.
From the top of this hill, visitors can enjoy the peaceful valley through which the Pisuerga River flows.
