St.Fructuoso Church
This Gothic-style church is located at the top of the village of Colmenares de Ojeda. Construction began in the 14th century on an earlier Romanesque church with two naves covered with ribbed vaults and a flat chancel, and was not completed until the 18th century when some Renaissance elements were added.
The doorway has a starred ribbed portico opened on three sides by semicircular arches. It consists of a series of pointed archivolts supported by columns with running capitals, which in turn are decorated with hunting scenes, plant motifs and men's heads from whose mouths emerge vine stems with their respective leaves and clusters, as well as a canopy with plant motifs.
Inside, the decorated capitals of the triumphal arch, the 18th century Baroque altarpiece with several 16th century sculptures, the 16th century silver parish cross, which is one of the best examples of Palencia's Renaissance silverware, are all quite remarkable.
However, the most outstanding feature of the St. Fructuosus church is the 12th century Romanesque font, the most characteristic remnant of the old Romanesque church. The basin rests on its original base, decorated with plant motifs and masks. Its vase is adorned with a griffin and three scenes: an act of baptism; the representation of the resurrection of Jesus Christ with the three Marys in front of the empty tomb, and a last scene of dubious significance with two men embracing and a third who places his hand on the shoulder of one of them.
