Pisón de Ojeda
Pisón de Ojeda is located in the Ojeda valley and belongs to the municipality of Olmos de Ojeda in Palencia.
Its name refers to the fulling mills that were used to shear cloths and linen fabrics by means of hydraulic devices in rivers or streams. Thus, the meaning would be "the place of the fulling in La Ojeda".
There are records of settlements at the end of the 9th century when Count Rodrigo undertook a series of resettlements in the valley of La Ojeda. It belonged to the lordship of the Monastery of San Andrés del Arroyo.
Its houses are mostly second homes and line the banks of the Burejo River and its tributary, Arroyo de La Pila, crosses the river at this point.
Noteworthy among its architectural legacy is the Romanesque St. Pelayo parish church. It was built in the 13th century and later renovated in Gothic style. Years later, it underwent a restoration in the 1980s, which respected the original apse.
The main festival of St. Pelayo is celebrated on the last Saturday of June with a traditional procession and the erection of an arch of branches in the centre of the town.
