Prádanos de Ojeda
Pradanos de Ojeda is a town located in the Ojeda Valley in the province of Palencia. According to some researchers, its name comes from the Latin word pratum, which means field or meadow. This word also refers to the camps set up by the Roman legions known as pratas.
Despite being a small town, there are several historical sights to see in Pradanos de Ojeda. Examples include the Sacred Heart of Jesus Square where the Town Hall, the clock tower, and St. Peter's Chapel are located. The chapel has a stone facade with a double door with a semicircular arch and a single-bell belfry. Inside, the groin vaults house the wooden choir and various works of art such as a Gothic sculpture of the Virgin and Child from the 14th century, another of St. Peter, from the second half of the 16th century, and a 17th century altarpiece with the Christ. However, the greatest treasure kept in this chapel is undoubtedly a 13th century Gothic sculpture of St. Ramon.
There is also the Parish Church of St. Christopher in the hamlet. It is a Romanesque-Renaissance ensemble begun in the 12th century and finished between the 15th and 17th centuries. It is built in ashlar masonry and has a basilica-like floor plan in the shape of a cross, with a rounded vault, divided into two naves and three chapels on the Gospel side. Inside there are two Romanesque capitals, a 14th century Gothic Christ, Baroque altarpieces, an articulated Christ, and a 16th century St. Michael, ironwork on one of the doors, an organ from 1782, and a parish cross made of segments that was exhibited at the 1999 Ages of Man Exhibition in Palencia.
The residents of this town celebrate their patron saint festivities of St. Christopher on July 10 and those of St. Isidro on May 15.
The Castilian Lebaniego Route and the Romanesque Nature Path of Palencia pass through the village.
