Olmos de Ojeda
This is the capital and one of the eight districts that make up the municipality of Olmos de Ojeda, located in the region of Boedo-Ojeda in the province of Palencia. The Burejo River, a tributary of the Pisuerga, and its tributary, the Tarabás River, run through the town, and the two bodies of water join as they exit the town.
Although small in size, this town has some architectural landmarks that are worth visiting. One example is the town hall and the superb baroque palace belonging to Don Tomás Rodríguez de Monroy, senior chaplain of the Cathedral of Toledo and officer of the Holy Office of the Inquisition in the 17th century. Another of the town's treasures is located in the highest part of the village. It is the Gothic parish church built in honour of St. Michael.
There is a unique noble house that has been restored several times and has become famous for a rather interesting inscription carved on its facade that reads "Everything that the world loves ends up in the grave. Do not love good, for it will end, nor fear evil, for it will not last. 1758”.
Outside the village is the old church and monastery of St. Euphemia of Cozuelos. It was declared a historical and artistic monument in 1931, but is currently used as a farm operated by the Díaz de Bustamante family. The livestock facility is open to visitors.
Last but not least, in the surrounding area there is a place known as "El Hito" (The Landmark), where many archaeological remains have been found that confirm the existence of a Roman villa from the Lower Imperial period. Olmos de Ojeda's economy is based on agriculture that includes orchards along the riverbanks, raising sheep, and hunting hares, quail, and partridges.
The festivities of their patron saints are held in honour of St. Michael and St. John on May 8 and 24, respectively.
