Chuirch of Nuestra Señora de Cébrano
A sanctuary dating back to the 9th century, then known as Santa María de Carrea, and of recognised prestige in the Council of Teverga - and beyond - since the 12th century.
The church has a single stone nave with the sacristy located at the head. It features an ashlar façade with a stone inscribed with the date of its construction, 1694, and is surmounted by a belfry with two bells.
Inside is the Virgin of Cébrano, a Romanesque-Byzantine wood carving. Legend has it that it was found by a shepherd in a cave on the slopes of Peña Sobia, hidden there after the Battle of Guadalete to protect it from Arab attacks.
The Virgen de Nuestra Señora del Cébrano festival is celebrated on 15 August, when devotees place the copper container with geometrical inscriptions on their heads -in which the Virgin was found - to cure mental ailments and headaches (the original container was stolen from the sanctuary).
