Chapel of San Pedro
In the Plaza Mayor of Fresnillo de Bourges stands the Chapel of San Pedro.
It is a place of honour for San Pedro de Bourges and the miracle that the village witnessed. It is said that after the saint consecrated the church of Fresnillo in the second half of the 11th century and carried out his work as a shepherd, he sought refuge in the shade of an oak tree because the unfortunate village had no accommodation for him. Furthermore, the area experienced a prolonged period of drought, resulting in a water shortage that affected the local population's ability to drink and wash their hands. He prayed to God, and as a result, water emerged from beneath the chapel where he was. The spring remains today, and it is said that it not only quenched the thirst of the inhabitants of Fresnillo, but also helped to remove ailments of the person who drank it. The event was widely publicised and even featured on the wall of the Osma cathedral chapel.
The chapel of San Pedro is an asset to the village, having been rebuilt on several occasions. The church is constructed on a rectangular plan with a masonry base. The base is supported by a very wide round arch. The rest of the chapel, which is topped by a Latin cross, looms above it. It is accessed through another large arch. The interior of the sanctuary is modest in size, with an arched vaulted ceiling overlooking a small altar with the image of the Virgin.
The chapel's exterior overlooks the village's main square, which is accessed via a flight of stone steps. This expansive and distinctive venue is the focal point for community gatherings, particularly during the festivities dedicated to the Santo Cristo del Priorato in the second week of May and other local celebrations.
