Ferreirela
Another small village to explore in the western part of Asturias is Ferreirela. One of the 38 villages that make up the parish of Santa Eulalia de Oscos, Ferreirela is located at the heart of the Oscos-Eo Biosphere Reserve and is the only Biosphere Reserve with both coasts and fishing villages. This area boasts landscapes of extraordinary beauty, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the nature, ethnography, and crafts of this Spanish corner.
Ferreirela is located at an altitude of 570 m, just over 1 km from the capital, Santa Eulalia de Oscos. Despite its small size, with only three houses, the village houses the Museum of the Birthplace of the Marquis of Sargadelos. The museum commemorates the birthplace of Antonio Raimundo Ibáñez, an influential industrialist who played a key role in promoting the iron and steel industry as well as the production of high-quality ceramics in the region. Visitors to the museum can explore the life and work of this visionary entrepreneur who, in the 18th century, established one of the first factories in Spain where cast iron and earthenware were melted.
