Villanueva
Villanueva is the smallest village in the parish of Santo Adriano.
The Trubia River divides the village into two parts, the two halves being connected by a single-span Roman bridge.
The church of Saint Roman stands out among the buildings in Villanueva. A church of Romanesque origin built in the 18th century, it has a single nave and a semicircular apse. Inside, Gothic paintings can still be viewed.
At the southern entrance to Villanueva is the eco-museum of La Ponte. The museum and research space are dedicated to the history, archaeology, and cultural and heritage studies of the territory. For guided tours and to find out more about the centre, please visit the following link.
To the north of Villanueva is the gorge of Las Xanas, a place of exceptional beauty. It can be appreciated along a 7.6 km hiking route that crosses the gorge, which formed by the erosion of the Viescas River as it passes through the area. The name comes from Asturian mythology, where it is said that Xana is the fairy that lives in the river caves and springs.
The village celebrates the festivities of Our Lady of el Carmen on 16th July and Saint Roman on 9th August.
