Bárzana
Bárzana is the capital of the parish of Quirós. It is a small village located in the mountains in the centre of Asturias.
To the east of the village centre, the Reguero de Coañana joins the river Trubia, whose course has shaped the valley in which Bárzana is located.
There are various leisure options in Bárzana, including numerous hiking, cycling and climbing routes. In fact, the village's first climbing school was founded in the 1970s and is still open today.
Among the places of interest in Bárzana are the parish church of San Julián de Bárzana and the hermitage of San José.
Nearby is the Ethnographic Museum of Quirós and the Ubiñas-La Mesa Nature Reserve.
Bárzana celebrates its patron saint festivities of Saints Joseph and Michael on 19th March and 29th September respectively. The village fairs have a strong livestock focus. In addition, during the rest of the year other events such as the Mercáu Tradicional (Traditional market) and the Amagüestu are usually held.
In addition, almost every weekend during the summer months there is a festival in honour of the patron saint of one of the many villages that make up the parish. hese celebrations typically showcase traditional performances by local groups and lively open-air dances known as "verbenas".
