Carrascal Mill
The Carrascal Mill is situated on the Izana River, one of the tributaries of the Duero. The construction is situated just 500 metres upstream from the point where the two rivers meet.
The construction of this type of infrastructure was designed to use the power of water to grind cereals into flour. The operation was straightforward: the water was discharged into the space below, where the impeller was located, which received the water and turned the machinery. The difference in level between the water inlet and the water discharge point, the design of the impeller blades, the angle of incidence of the water jet and the height of the final waterfall were fundamental for the use of these mills. The impellers previously used had a diameter of approximately one and a half metres.
The construction of this type of infrastructure enabled the flour industry to flourish in Spain during the 19th century.
