chapel of the Virgen del Pilar
The chapel of the Virgen del Pilar is situated in an enclave of great natural beauty, less than a kilometre from the town of Barca, surrounded by a vast expanse of cereal fields. The modest building, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was constructed in the 18th century.
The most notable aspect of this monument is the inclusion of a curious figure of the Virgin Mary on a boat within it. The boat is supported by a column, which is in turn supported by a stepped base. The ship's figurehead is a representation of an angel in prayer.
This temple is part of the Spanish Historical Heritage and is protected by Law 16/1985 of 25 June 1985.
The village of Barca is home to several heritage sites of interest, including the church of Santa Cristina. The building is a fine example of Romanesque architecture, with a porticoed gallery dating back to the original 12th-century structure. The building also features a tower, which was previously used for surveillance and defence purposes.
The village square features El Rollo, a column standing on two steps and rising to a height of 6 metres. This figure is included in the catalogue of protected assets of the Junta de Castilla y León in the category of Rollo de Justicia.
The Ethnographic Museum of Barca, one of the oldest museums in Soria, is located at the southern exit of the village. It was inaugurated in 1979.
