La Solana Mill
La Solana Mill was commenced by the Counts of Gómara and Foncalada in 1654. In addition to the mill itself, the mill had a house for the miller.
The mill was responsible for the milling of the entire area, so it was sometimes necessary to cross the Duero River by boat to access its services.
For the Molino de la Solana to function, a dam on the Duero River was required to divert the water to a rake that sieved it and to gates that controlled its flow. The water was conveyed to the gully and the runners of the vertical shaft, which engaged with the millstones. Each stone comprised a fixed component (sill) and a movable component (slide). The grain was then poured into a hopper and, once ground, fell into the trough as flour or bran once it had been sieved.
In 1751, the property was leased and in 1973, it was purchased and restored. The property is currently in a state of disrepair.
