The Virgen del Duero chapel
The Virgen del Duero chapel is a modest structure situated on the riverbank. The structure is entirely constructed from masonry, using sandstone, limestone and river pebbles.
The nave is believed to be of Romanesque origin, dating from the 12th to 13th century. However, it is built on top of an earlier construction, for which the date of construction is not known.
The interior of the structure features a sandstone capital, measuring 29 cm in height and 36.5 x 32 cm in length. This has been preserved as a support for the aguabenditera basin.
In 1994, during the renovation of this chapel, a collection of polychrome pottery pieces from the first half of the 13th century, known as "Las tablas de Almarail", were discovered. The limited number of surviving examples from the period in Castilla y León makes these elements of great interest. The panels are currently on display at the Museum of the Co-cathedral of San Pedro in Soria.
