Ituero
Ituero is in the expansive, fertile plain of the river Duero, just 22 kilometres from Soria. The property is owned by the municipality of Cubo de la Solana and is situated near the cereal and sunflower fields, which are irrigated by one of the river's meandering tributaries.
Ituero's history is marked by an intriguing cave complex situated at the eastern end of the town, specifically in the Bajera neighbourhood. This complex comprises Olerdolan tombs, which may date from the Early Middle Ages to the Modern Era. In 1995, an excavation of the site, known as La Cuesta, was carried out. This revealed the presence of five complete graves and parts of two others. Furthermore, in the town currently used for agricultural purposes, to the southwest of the town, bordering to the north with the Acequia de la Dehesa, there is an archaeological site called El Calvario with early medieval ceramic remains scattered around the estate. Finally, in the northern sector of Ituero is the site of Sacejo I, another area where there are ceramic materials from the full medieval period.
It has been established that Ituero was a royal estate of the city of Soria. It is also worth noting that the village had a jetty to cross the Duero River, which was home to numerous bodies of water.
The most notable landmark in the village is the modest church of San Pedro de Ituero. This modest religious building is constructed with a single nave, using both masonry and ashlar masonry in the corners and windows. The building is enhanced by two side naves which serve as a chapel and sacristy. The exterior of the building is characterised by an austere appearance, with a large belfry crowned by two bays containing bells cast in 1945. The belfry is accompanied by a nest of storks.
The Duero river offers an ideal setting for a variety of water-based activities, including canoeing and fishing. This stretch of the river offers angling opportunities for crayfish and trout. Additionally, the property boasts a pine reforestation area, known as "La Madera," which offers a tranquil setting for relaxation and reflection.
In terms of biological richness, this area is home to a diverse range of steppe, gliding and riverine birds. Furthermore, the area is home to species included in the Castilla y León Catalogue of Threatened Species. This area is traversed by the R4 route of the Rutas de Soria.
Ituero is also a town with a rich heritage, where some traditions are still observed, including the slaughter of pigs, the celebration of Easter Week and the San Antonio festivities on 13 June.
