PR FV 15: Tefía - Casillas - Tetir
Description
Across the Fortress Mountain
Trail PR FV 15 starts from the church of San Agustín de Tefía, where it converges with the main trail, from which it later branches out at a junction, heading out toward Montaña de la Fortaleza (Fortress Mountain) and the small village of Casillas del Ángel, from which it reaches the Tetir Valley until it reconnects with trail PR FV 15.1 towards Tetir.
The short-distance PR FV 15 trail starts at the shrine of San Agustín de Tefía, in front of which there are information panels describing this trail as well as the main trail, since both routes are one and the same at this particular point. During a first paved stretch, PR FV 15 heads out in a south-southeast direction toward Casillas del Angel, until it reaches a junction from which it branches out from the main trail.
Soon we will leave the asphalt road behind us and we will follow a well-signposted dirt path which offers beautiful views of the region surrounding the small village of Tefía. This pleasant path, almost entirely even and flat, skirts Montaña de la Fortaleza (Fortress Mountain) and leads to the little village of Casillas del Ángel, situated on the valley.
We go through the center of the village of Casillas del Ángel, where we can visit the Santa Ana parish church, and then continue in a northeasterly direction, leaving soon the asphalt road and the plain behind us and moving on to a dirt track with a gentle slope that ascends to Degollada de La Sargenta, where we can admire spectacular views both of the Tetir valley and the valley we have just left behind.
Next we go down the other side toward Majada de los Abreus (Abreus Sheep-fold), past a resting area consisting of a roofed stone construction with wooden tables and benches inside, until we reach Tetir Valley, where the trail connects - at a junction of several dirt tracks – with trail PR FV 15.1, which comes from Tefía through the valley.
From here, we go through the next mountain pass in a northerly direction until we come to the village of Tetir, which is almost entirely surrounded by mountains. The trail ends at plaza de Juan Rodríguez in Tetir, where the church of Santo Domingo is located.
