Diego Hernández Cave
Diego Hernández Cave is located on the cliff bearing the same name, at the base of Las Cañadas Cirque between El Risco Verde Ravine and Diego Hernández Ravine, next to the Siete Cañadas track, the old Chasna Royal Road, formerly used to connect the villages of the south and the north for commercial and social purposes.
It is a rectangular formation which is higher at the entrance, reaching a height of almost two metres, while the highest point inside is just under one metre and twenty centimetres high. According to some writings that have been found, it once had protection at the entrance, including some kind of door.
Diego Hernández was the last aboriginal shepherd to live in this area. He had a herd of goats and the cave served as his home during the time he spent with his livestock in El Teide National Park, until the rainy season came, when he left the area. He was not the only one who tried to maintain the traditional way of life of the Canarian shepherds, as there is also information about Mr. Juan Évora.
The land on which this cave is located is currently classified as a Reserve and therefore you cannot access it without a permit from the National Park.
