Cortado de Los Organos Rock Formation
The Orotava Valley is located on the north of the island of Tenerife. This place was known as Taoro, the Guanche name for one of the nine kingdoms into which the island was divided in the 15th century, when the Castilian conquest began.
This valley arose when an intense tidal wave caused a landslide. As a remnant of that landslide, Cortado de Los Órganos can still be seen today, a rock of great proportions in which cylindrical formations stand out, reminiscent of the pipes of the organs in old churches, hence its name.
There is a circular walking route covering just over 11 kilometres, starting and finishing at La Caldera recreational area, in the upper part of La Orotava. This trail takes walkers through Canary pine forests alternating with areas of heath-firetree forests, offering a spectacular panoramic view of the Orotava Valley.
