Monument to Infinity
The Monumento Al Infinito, or Monument to Infinity is a sculpture by the visionary Lanzarote artist César Manrique. A monument that reflects the contribution of this painter, sculptor, architect and defender of the environment to Canarian culture. His legacy stands out for the harmonious fusion of art and nature, promoting sustainability and the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Canary Islands.
Located on the upper slope of the municipality of San Andrés y Sauces, almost 2,000 m above sea level, the monument was erected in 1985 on the occasion of the inauguration of the Roque de Los Muchachos Astrophysics Observatory. At approximately eleven metres tall, it is strategically positioned for astronomical observation, rising above the sea of clouds.
The refurbishment of the surroundings of the Monumento Al Infinito not only enhances its beauty, but also serves as a key stopping point for visitors to Roque de Los Muchachos, especially those arriving by road from Santa Cruz de La Palma. It is also an ideal starting point for various active tourism activities, such as astronomical observation, as well as hiking and cycling routes.
