Parque Arqueológico de Belmaco
The Belmaco Archaeological Park is located in the municipality of Mazo, on the eastern side of La Palma.
The park is home to archaeological sites of great importance, especially those linked to the original inhabitants of the island before the arrival of the European colonisers. One of the highlights are the petroglyphs; stone engravings depicting figures and symbols. These provide valuable information on the beliefs and daily life of the Benahoaritas.
The Benahoaritas, the ancient inhabitants of the island, descendants of the first Guanche settlers, developed their own unique culture and left their mark in the form of petroglyphs and other vestiges. This is why this park is such an important archaeological site, offering a fascinating insight into the pre-Hispanic history of La Palma, highlighting the rich history of the island before the arrival of the European colonisers.
The park also features an interpretation centre that provides detailed information about the island's archaeology and the indigenous Benahoarita culture. Providing historical and cultural context to better understand the significance of the findings. It also has trails that take visitors through the different sites, allowing them to explore the area and appreciate the archaeological discoveries.
