Alba de Tormes former train station
The Alba de Tormes train station was built to serve the Plasencia-Astorga line, which for many years was known as the "Silver Route". This railroad connected the north to the south of Spain through the western part of the country.
The Alba de Tormes train station was inaugurated in June 1896 and served the municipality of Alba de Tormes and the small surrounding villages, such as Martinamor, Encinas de Arriba or Valdemierque.
It was in operation for nearly 90 years, closing to passenger traffic in 1984 and to freight traffic in 1995. The three buildings that made up the complex are still standing, but they are in a derelict state.
Currently, this point marks the end of the Carbajosa de la Sagrada-Alba de Tormes section of the Vía de la Plata Nature Trail.
