Calescoves
Calescoves is a small, double virgin bay located a short distance to the east of En Porter Bay. This bay, whose sandy area is less than 20 metres long, is the site of an important prehistoric necropolis excavated in the walls of the cliffs that flank it.
This is a group of artificial caves and hypogeum, dug into the rock of the cliffs and the coast (around 90 burials have been discovered). The necropolis was used for about 1000 years, from the 11th century BC to late antiquity.
In Roman times, although it lost its use as a necropolis, it appears that it continued to be a place of worship or pilgrimage, as evidenced by a series of inscriptions in the well-known "Cova dels Jurats" (Jurats Cave).
Apart from the necropolis, this bay, which is well protected from the winds and tides, was an important pier between the 4th century BC and the 6th century AD, as proven by the ceramic remains found at the bottom of the bay. There are also remains of a fortified coastal settlement, of which part of a wall has survived.
