En Turqueta Bay
It is not clear where the name of this beautiful bay with fine sand and blue waters on the south-west of Menorca comes from. Some suggest that the name is due to its turquoise waters, but it may also be due to the raids by Turkish pirates (the presence of Artrutx Tower standing guard over the headland to the west of the bay seems to favour this second option).
This is a very popular bay in this part of the island due to its picturesque location, surrounded by cliffs and a dense pine forest that practically ends on the beach itself. Apart from being able to reach it along stage 12 or 13 of the Camí de Cavalls trail, a car park has been created just 800 metres from the beach. From this car park, follow the path through the pine forest, which suddenly opens out onto this magnificent bay.
On the way, just at the entrance to the bay, you will see an old animal-powered waterwheel of which the well, the sandstone pylons where the wheel used to sit and some iron gears are still preserved.
