Talayotic Settlement of sa Torreta de Tramuntana
Located in S'Albufera des Grau Nature Park, it is one of the few and most emblematic Talayotic settlements that have been identified in the Tramuntana region.
In 1930, Margaret Murray, a British archaeologist specialising in scientific research on prehistory on the island, documented the discovery of this settlement, as well as the elements related to the rituals that took place there.
Nowadays, the talayot, the taula chamber and a few houses have been preserved. The first of these elements is located at the highest point of the settlement. It has a stepped, oval floor plan and, thanks to its privileged location, the entire territory can be controlled from here.
Below this is the taula, a small chamber that remains intact. Here you can observe some pillars that are still standing, as well as part of the façade which remains in good condition.
Finally, the site is completed by the remains of four spaces destined for domestic use.
Also near the village, towards the beach, you can see the base of a funerary chamber, built using a much older cyclopean technique known as a triple-faced tomb, which dates back to between 1600 and 1300 BC.
In the vicinity there is a centenary holm oak, a specimen catalogued by the Balearic Government as a unique Balearic tree and which is between six hundred and seven hundred years old.
