Playa de Es Grau ( Es Grau Beach)
7 kilometres from Maó, in s'Albufera des Grau Nature Park, the heart of the Biosphere Reserve, you will find the semi-urban Es Grau beach.
It is a wide, shell-shaped beach surrounded by vegetation with shallow, calm waters thanks to the protection provided by Colom Island. This makes it the best beach on the island for families. It used to be a fishing village many years ago, but nowadays it has become a summer resort for many of the island's inhabitants.
Dels Mabres rock is a small ledge that divides this long, narrow beach in two, whose dunes act as a natural barrier to Des Grau lagoon which flows into the beach through the inlet.
It is also the largest sandy area in the nature park, covering 5,066.95 hectares of land and sea. Es Grau's coastal section stretches between Sa Cudia and Fra Bernat and, along with the coastal nucleus bearing the same name and the 70-hectare lagoon, it is the island's most important wetland.
