La Mitjana Visitors' Centre
Situated at one of the main entrances to Mitjana Park, the Mitjana Visitors' Centre is the ideal starting point for discovering the natural beauty of the River Segre and the riverside woodlands surrounding the city of Lleida. This environmental facility, managed by Lleida City Council, plays an important role in educating, informing and raising awareness around the area’s natural heritage.
The building, shown in the picture, features functional architecture that blends seamlessly into the landscape. It is a single-storey building constructed mainly of timber, with spacious covered porches that provide shaded areas where visitors can rest. The complex is organised around a large open square, surrounded by landscaped gardens and trees, creating a welcoming atmosphere in complete harmony with nature. In the foreground stands a carved wooden sculpture, a decorative feature that enhances the centre’s natural ambience.
Inside, it houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to the Mitjana forest and the river ecosystems of the River Segre. Scale models, information panels, audiovisual displays and a range of educational resources help visitors understand how this natural area was formed, its historical development and the diversity of its flora and fauna. It also explains phenomena such as bird migration, seasonal changes in the landscape and the importance of wetlands for the conservation of biodiversity.
In addition to the exhibition, the centre also organises guided tours, workshops, family activities, environmental education programmes for schoolchildren and numerous outreach initiatives aimed at all kinds of audiences. It also has multi-purpose spaces designed for meetings, training activities and projects relating to the understanding and conservation of the natural environment.
Thanks to this work, La Mitjana Visitors' Centre has become a leading centre for environmental education in the Lleida region and a meeting point for those wishing to learn more about the ecosystems of the River Segre.
