Caldes de Boí
The Caldes de Boí spa is situated in the Boí Valley, in the province of Lleida, at an altitude of almost 1,500 metres and on the banks of the River Noguera de Tor. The centre has 37 mineral-therapeutic springs located in the spa gardens; these waters have, in fact, earned it a place in the Guinness World Records. The temperatures of these springs varies between 4 and 56 degrees Celsius.
The springs at La Tartera, El Bou, Avellaner, Bosch and Boix, among others, produce waters rich in chloride, sulphur, sulphate and carbonate, which make it possible to treat rheumatic, skin, respiratory, kidney, urinary tract and neurological conditions and provide anti-stress therapy.
Its waters also boast therapeutic benefits of the natural hot springs at Caldes de Boí. These are caves with a temperature of 44°C, where various ailments are treated, with benefits for the skin and appearance as well. Another attraction is the two types of mud produced there using an ancient technique, which are then used to treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.
Although they were declared to be of public utility in 1887 – more than two centuries after the first bathhouse in the area was established – their therapeutic origins of the waters have been known since Roman times, believed to date back between 10,000 and 16,000 years.
There are two hotels in the area and from one of them, the Hotel Manantial, you can set off on a walking tour to explore the springs while enjoying the spa surroundings. Spanning 40 hectares in the heart of the countryside and boasting a high concentration of pure oxygen, the area is ideal for other highly beneficial activities such as forest bathing or meditation.
