Old restored quarry
This historic gypsum quarry is situated between the towns of Soneja and Sot de Ferrer, nestled in the heart of the Alto Palancia in the Castellón region. Today, this site has transformed into a naturalized lagoon, positioned along the path of the Ojos Negros Greenway. The quarrying activity led to the disappearance of the remnants of the railway line that once passed through the area, connecting the Ojos Negros mine with the port of Sagunto.
This is perhaps one of the most meticulously restored sites along the route, now integrated into the national network of Nature Trails. In this location, the marks left by the machinery during the extraction process are clearly visible, alongside the truck paths used to transport the raw materials. The site is expected to undergo further changes as part of the ongoing restoration of the artificial wetland.
