Carrasca de los Tocones
The Carrasca de los Tocones is a thousand-year-old holm oak with an irregular shape, also known as the “carrasca de Peracense.”
This evergreen tree retains two of its four branches, one of which was lost in a lightning strike and the other lost in a severe windstorm. Declared a “Singular Tree of Aragon,” this holm oak is native to the Mediterranean region and is of medium size.
It has a circumference of 6 m measured at a height of 1.30 m and is over 11 m high.
Highly prized for its wood, which is very hard and resistant as it is rot-proof, it is very useful for making charcoal or for use as firewood. The bark is smooth and has a greyish-green colour that darkens with age. Its leaves remain on the tree for two to four years and its fruits, the acorns, are brown in colour.
