Those interested in the world of wine will undoubtedly enjoy a good experience at Murero, which houses the main wineries with the Protected Geographical Indication (P.G.I.) Vinos de la Tierra Ribera del Jiloca.
Around this village there are several wineries specialising in Garnacha grapes, of which some are still preserved in goblet-trained vines. The age of the stocks, coupled with the slatey character of the soils, are features that confer great quality to the wines produced in the valley of the River Jiloca.
Although the Garnacha grape predominates, other varieties such as Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon have also been introduced recently, exploiting the excellent conditions in the area, such as its microclimate, which is due to the Vicort and Atea mountain ranges that protect the crops, and their altitude, at between 800 and 1,000 metres above sea level. These conditions contribute to perfect ripening of the fruit and helped the area’s wines to be awarded the Protected Geographical Indication as Vinos de la Tierra Ribera del Jiloca (Wines of the Ribera del Jiloca Region) in 2005.
