Infrastructure
Old San Leonardo de Yagüe station
In the past, this building was part of the railway infrastructure of the line connecting Calatayud with Cidad Dosante, in Burgos. This line was conceived as part of a wider connection intended to link the ports of Santander and Sagunto. The ambitious project took was first undertaken the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but was abandoned and definitively closed down in January 1985.
In 1920, the provincial councils of Burgos, Santander, Soria and Zaragoza supported the construction of the central sections of the Santander-Mediterranean railway. The section between Calatayud and Cidade-Dosante was completed in 1930. However, the connection to Santander was never completed, with the final 35 km remaining incomplete.
After the definitive closure of the railway service, some buildings were leased to municipalities or private individuals, while others were abandoned and left to their fate. However, despite the fact that no trains run here anymore, in the area around the station has been given a new lease of life thanks to its rehabilitation as part of a rest area belonging to the Santander-Mediterranean Nature Trail. Here walkers can find a place with benches and wooden tables, as well as information on the now-disused railway line and the surroundings of San Leonardo de Yagüe.
