River Mayuelo
The Mayuelo is a small river that originates in the Sierra de la Demanda, in the heart of Burgos. It is one of the main tributaries of the River Lobos, which it joins on its left bank. It has a short route of just over two kilometres running alongside Hontoria del Pinar. On the banks of the river we find vegetation dominated by ash, arboreal willow and poplar trees, mixed with other common species such as the hawthorn, blackthorn, bramble and elm. It's a picturesque landscape and is also home to a number of species of birds that inhabit these trees.
In terms of the river’s aquatic flora, species such as the macrophyte, the pond rush and the watercress are present. Adjacent land is dominated mainly by pastureland, fields of cereal crops and fallow land, while the slopes of the mountain range are occupied by wide expanses of pine, Spanish juniper, gall oak, common juniper and rockrose.
