Campanario Bridge
This is one of the remains left by the Romans in Hontoria del Pinar, in the heart of the Sierra de la Demanda mountains. As well as viaduct, the founders of Hispania built a number of important infrastructure features, both for them and for the inhabitants of the area in later times, They include the Hontoria del Pinar road and the Ucero canal, which supplied the Roman villa of Uxama, today Burgo de Osma.
This Roman bridge, also known as the Campanario Bridge, was essential for communication in the area, providing a crossing over the River Lobos in this corner of Burgos. It is a masonry construction with three openings that formed part of the route laid out by the Roman Road of the North, stretching between the Via Augusta and the Via de la Plata, and passing through the important Roman settlements of Numancia, Clunia and Uxama. Today, the Roman viaduct of Hontoria del Pinar is one of the entrances to the nearby Cañón del Río Lobos Natural Park, and one of the most important natural attractions in the area.
