Los Ausines river
The Los Ausines River originates in the vicinity of the municipality of Revilla del Campo, in the heart of the province of Burgos. It is formed from the confluence of different streams and springs that flow from the surrounding mountain peaks.
The river defines the personality of the towns and villages it flows through before entering the Arlanzón River at Cavia. Riverside vegetation grows and mills and market gardens have sprung up along its banks, which in the past were essential for the economic and social development of the area.
Along the route, we encounter several viaducts of great historical value, built to save the flow of the Los Ausines River in medieval times. On its way to the Arlanzón, the river is also crossed by other bridges of more recent construction, in some cases linked to the extinct and failed Santander-Mediterranean railway line, which have now been made available for pedestrians and cyclists as part of the Camino Natural route that follows in the footsteps of that itinerary.
