Chapel of Virgen de Cantarrana
To the west of the hamlet of Moneo is a small chapel built in 1774 where the image of the Virgin of Cantarranas is venerated.
The chapel is built of stone masonry and consists of a single rectangular nave with a gabled roof. The façade is notable for its portal, through which access to the temple is made. It has a semicircular arch with a stone coat of arms on the keystone with an inscription that supposedly bears the year of its construction (1774). However, this church is documented in a diocesan pastoral visit that took place in 1707, so some scholars suggest that this date may refer to a later reform.
Above the door is a small pediment with a relief figure and, above it, a rounded oculus that allows light into the church. This central body is crowned with a belfry that houses a bell.
Inside, there is a single nave with whitewashed walls and several windows with coloured glass panes. The altar, with a large altarpiece with several religious images, rests in the background.
Between 15th and 18th August, Moneo celebrates the festivities in honour of its patron saint, San Roque, and on the first Saturday in September the Ermita de Cantarranas festival is held. A mass and a procession take place during the festivities, which end with a popular paella in the area surrounding the church.
